The art of dance has been with me my entire life. As a child, seeing my sister up on stage performing inspired me to begin on a journey that would teach me countless life lessons as well as give me some of the best friends I'll ever have. When I was little, I'd always looked at dance as just a fun way to hang out with my friends. But as I grew older, I saw the beauty in dancing and realized that if this was something I was going to put so much of my time into, I should give it my all.
Dance is one of the most time-consuming activities out there, and requires so much effort and precision that sometimes the hours may not seem worth it. But when I'm on stage with the people I love most around me, it all becomes worth it. When I see the smiles on the faces of the people we perform for, I know in my heart that I will always love dancing. It's a form of expression unlike any other. You lose yourself in the movements and suddenly all of your stresses in life disappear. It requires determination and persistence, and can be extremely exhausting. Coming home everyday after school and going right to dance class, then not getting back home until 10pm can take a toll. But with these conditions I've learned how to manage my time so that I don't have to compromise on the quality of the work I do.
Throughout all of my ballet, jazz, modern, and tap classes I haven't just developed the skills of dance, but also the ability to form long-lasting friendships that I'll value for the rest of my life. I'm so grateful for the role dance has played in my life, and I'm excited to see where it will take me next.
